  • Suitable for acrylic, oil, gouache, tempera and more
  • Frame: round birch multiplex (European) — stable & moisture-resistant, made by us

Why a round 36 mm deep

Round means no corners and no fixed orientation – ideal for motifs that work from the centre outwards. At a gallery depth of 36 mm, the round canvas in birch with linen stands clearly off the wall; the edges become part of the picture. 400 g/m² linen, triple-primed: fine-grained and strong enough for the curves of the round canvas on birch at 36 mm.

Birch and linen, 36 mm: the right match?

Birch with linen is our premium round combination – made for oil painting, commissions and work for sale or exhibition. At 36 mm no picture frame is needed: the painted edges finish the work. The hard birch plies hold the tension of 400 g linen for years, even in the largest size of Ø 200 cm. Good subjects for this shape in birch: mandalas, flowers of life and other circular motifs.

Which size?

18 sizes from Ø 30 cm to Ø 200 cm are available for the 36 mm round canvas in birch with linen – the smallest from €61.00. For comparison: Ø 80 cm costs €188.00 in this version. From Ø 130 cm we fit a centre cross as standard; in birch at 36 mm the ring is stable without it too – just let us know if you would rather not have one. Intermediate sizes on request.

Questions about the round canvas in birch, 36 mm

Why does the linen version cost more? Linen is considerably more expensive than cotton and is joined in lengths for large sizes – at Ø 80 cm this version costs €188.00.

Is birch worth it for the round canvas at 36 mm? From about 120 cm, with wet techniques or for work you sell, yes. For small practice pieces from Ø 30 cm pine is enough for the round canvas at 36 mm.

Should I paint the 36 mm edges? Yes, it pays off: from the side the painting looks finished and needs no frame.

Frame depth 36 mm: Noticeably more substantial and dimensionally stable – even in large formats. In birch multiplex the frame is very stable even without a centre brace.

Which wood is right for you?

Standard

Pine Multiplex – Standard

  • More affordable and lighter than birch
  • Ideal for acrylics and thin oils
  • Standard formats up to 150 cm
  • Suitable for hobby and personal use
  • Great for dry techniques
Premium

Birch Multiplex – Premium

  • Harder, denser and 100 % warp-free
  • Ideal for wet techniques (watercolour, ink)
  • For heavy techniques (palette knife, resin)
  • For sale, exhibitions and galleries
  • Oversized formats up to 300 cm

Rule of thumb: up to 150 cm and dry techniques → Pine. From 150 cm, for sale or wet/heavy techniques → Birch.
