Multiplex statt MDF
The portal arch as a frame, 36 mm
A pine frame in portal-arch shape, 36 mm deep, straight below and with a semicircle on top, supplied without fabric. Once stretched, it gives you a gallery-depth canvas with edges you can paint. You stretch it yourself – it arrives cleanly milled and glued, ready for cotton or linen from 30×24 cm.
Pine multiplex in detail
Pine multiplex keeps this 36 mm portal arch frame light and affordable – from €41.00 up to 140×110 cm. Ideal for studios and painting schools working in the portal arch shape with their own fabric – in pine at 36 mm. So that nothing presses through while you paint, the 36 mm pine frame has a pocket rebate on the front; bars are 4 to 8 cm wide depending on size.
Finding the size
12 sizes from 30×24 cm to 140×110 cm (height × width) are available for the 36 mm portal arch frame in pine – the smallest from €41.00. For comparison: 80×62 cm costs €90.00 in this version. Large sizes get a centre cross from 130 cm height, so the tension holds. Intermediate sizes on request.
Questions about the portal arch frame in pine, 36 mm
Is the portal arch also available ready-stretched? Yes – as a finished canvas in cotton or linen, also in pine at 36 mm and in the same 12 sizes.
Is 36 mm the right depth? For the portal arch frame, 36 mm is the middle ground: deep enough for painted edges, still light. Flatter is 24, bolder is 48 mm – each in pine.
Which wood is right for you?
Pine Multiplex – Standard
- More affordable and lighter than birch
- Ideal for acrylics and thin oils
- Standard formats up to 150 cm
- Suitable for hobby and personal use
- Great for dry techniques
Birch Multiplex – Premium
- Harder, denser and 100 % warp-free
- Ideal for wet techniques (watercolour, ink)
- For heavy techniques (palette knife, resin)
- For sale, exhibitions and galleries
- Oversized formats up to 300 cm
Rule of thumb: up to 150 cm and dry techniques → Pine. From 150 cm, for sale or wet/heavy techniques → Birch.
