Arched Portal Canvas – pine, 48 mm

The portal shape is taller than it is wide and closes with a semicircle at the top. The portal arch canvas in pine with cotton is our deepest version: 48 mm, the painting stands almost 5 cm off the wall. The cotton (380 g/m²) goes onto the 48 mm pine stretcher triple-primed or, for your own ground, unprimed.

Pine and cotton, 48 mm: the right match?

In the portal arch shape, pine with cotton is the most affordable version – right for acrylics, practice, classes and hobby painting. At 48 mm the painting becomes a wall object – especially from about 80 cm. The pine stretcher keeps weight and price down (80×62 cm for €153.00) and stays straight up to around 120 cm. Good subjects for this shape in pine: window views, architecture, floral and sacred motifs.

From 30×24 cm to 140×110 cm

12 sizes from 30×24 cm to 140×110 cm (height × width) are available for the 48 mm portal arch canvas in pine with cotton – the smallest from €68.00. For comparison: 80×62 cm costs €153.00 in this version. Large sizes get a centre cross from 130 cm height, so the tension holds. Intermediate sizes on request.

Questions about the portal arch canvas in pine, 48 mm

Can I paint in oils on the portal arch canvas in pine? Yes, the triple primer takes oil. From about 120 cm – possible here up to 140×110 cm – linen stretches less and is the better choice for oils.

Is pine enough up to 140 cm? Up to about 120 cm, yes. For the large sizes up to 140×110 cm birch stays more stable; the portal arch at 48 mm is also available in birch.

Should I paint the 48 mm edges? Yes, it pays off: from the side the painting looks finished and needs no frame.

Which wood is right for you?

Standard

Pine Multiplex – Standard

  • More affordable and lighter than birch
  • Ideal for acrylics and thin oils
  • Standard formats up to 150 cm
  • Suitable for hobby and personal use
  • Great for dry techniques
Premium

Birch Multiplex – Premium

  • Harder, denser and 100 % warp-free
  • Ideal for wet techniques (watercolour, ink)
  • For heavy techniques (palette knife, resin)
  • For sale, exhibitions and galleries
  • Oversized formats up to 300 cm

Rule of thumb: up to 150 cm and dry techniques → Pine. From 150 cm, for sale or wet/heavy techniques → Birch.
