Straight sides, a straight base and a full semicircle on top – the portal shape recalls church windows and niches. The portal arch canvas in pine with cotton is the flat version: 24 mm deep, with edges that barely show. The cotton (380 g/m²) goes onto the 24 mm pine stretcher triple-primed or, for your own ground, unprimed.

In the portal arch shape, pine with cotton is the most affordable version – right for acrylics, practice, classes and hobby painting. At 24 mm it stays understated and hangs well in groups. Pine multiplex is light and stays true up to about 120 cm; for the largest sizes up to 140×110 cm we recommend birch. The range for the 24 mm portal arch canvas in pine with cotton runs from 30×24 cm to 140×110 cm (height × width): 12 sizes, starting at €34. For comparison: 80×62 cm costs €78 in this version. Large sizes get a centre cross from 130 cm height, so the tension holds. Intermediate sizes on request.

Can I paint in oils on the portal arch canvas in pine? Yes, the triple primer takes oil. From about 120 cm – possible here up to 140×110 cm – linen stretches less and is the better choice for oils.

Is pine enough up to 140 cm? Up to about 120 cm, yes. For the large sizes up to 140×110 cm birch stays more stable; the portal arch at 24 mm is also available in birch.

Do I need a picture frame for the portal arch canvas? At 24 mm calm white edges look best. We do not currently offer a picture frame in the portal arch shape – to go frameless, choose 36 or 48 mm.
